HTTPS connections

Post by fjwcash » October 26th, 2010, 3:35 pm

Any chance that a future (or current) firmware upgrade will enable HTTPS connections to the web server on the iBoot devices? Sending a username and password across the Internet is extremely bad form in this day and age. Having to configure a VPN between sites in order to keep the password secure, and prevent script kiddies from rebooting our systems at random is a royal pain. Limiting incoming connections to a specific IP is *not* a solution considering how easy it is to spoof the sending IP.

Thank you for your question.
The current iBoot firmware does not support SSL as you may know.
We did consider it, but when enabled, the page access speeds slowed to an unacceptable level.
There are no plans to incorporate the SSL access to the current hardware revision.

We do plan on introducing a newer revision of hardware in the future that will have many other features, including SSL, and probably SSH telnet access. There is no planned release date for this as yet to be designed hardware.

Currently, we can offer you the iBootBar product that supports SSL and will even alow uploading your own custom certificate to the iBootBar. (free software on our website to help create the certificate.) The iBootBar does load pages a little slower when using SSL, but not so slow as to ruin the experience.

Thanks for the info. Guess we'll wait a bit for the updated hardware. :)
